Position Overview
MALT seeks a Co-Lead Nature Educator / CIT Coordinator 2026 for our summer nature camp program. This position provides hands-on experience in outdoor education, youth engagement, and place-based learning on conserved lands. Counselors will work as part of a supportive team of educators to deliver safe, joyful, and curiosity-driven outdoor experiences for children ages 5-13.

Kevin Fox
Executive Director
Kevin joined MALT in July 2025 after over 25 years of leadership in conservation, sustainable development, and community engagement. A senior executive, seasoned project manager, and former U.S. diplomat with USAID, Kevin’s work has taken him across 21 countries, from South America to Sub-Saharan Africa and the Middle East. In Kevin’s last assignment in Peru, he served as the Director of U.S. Embassy Lima’ s Amazon Regional Environment Program, leading U.S. government efforts to protect ecosystems and support communities to empower their conservation stewardship across the Amazon Rainforest in eight countries.
Prior to his career as a Commissioned Foreign Service Officer, Kevin worked throughout Latin America—managing construction projects in Costa Rica, supporting volunteer teams for a U.S. nonprofit in the Dominican Republic, and serving as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Paraguay, working with farmers and rural communities. He is fluent in French and Spanish and holds a Master’s in International Business from the University of Florida. He brings a strong passion for community-led conservation, developing catalytic partnerships, and connecting people to the land. liam hickey
Trails & Volunteer Manager
Liam is a conservation enthusiast with a strong interest in trail design and publicly accessible lands. He discovered his passion during his AmeriCorps service with The Student Conservation Association (SCA), where he served on a roving trail crew across the Pacific Northwest and later with the NYS Excelsior Conservation Corps' Infrastructure and Sustainability Crew. Throughout his AmeriCorps service, Liam gained practical work skills experience and received specialized trainings in carpentry, wet and dry masonry, and historic preservation practices. After his time with the SCA, Liam became the Senior Trails Technician for New York State Park’s Thousand Islands region. There, he helped manage the trails in the region’s 28 state parks and supervised the day-to-day work of the SCA Parks Corps trail crew, providing their main source of on-the-job training and trail skills instruction.
Liam joined MALT as the Trails and Volunteer Manager in 2023, to use his knowledge and experience to support MALT's mission of preserving and protecting the natural beauty of Addison County. In his free time, Liam enjoys hiking with his trail pup Twitch, making things with his hands, and exploring new trails far and wide. Liam is eager to contribute his skills and experience to MALT's work and help ensure the well-being and long-term sustainability of the area's natural and human communities. Contact liam@maltvt.org.
Rachel klatzker
Education Manager
Since 2023, Rachel has led MALT’s education and community engagement portfolio where she has built and grown a highly regarded suite of outdoor education programs. She leads MALT’s summer camps, afterschool and vacation programs, public speaker series, and a wide range of creative outdoor experiences that connect people of all ages to the natural world.
Rachel has cultivated strong partnerships with organizations such as VINS, the U.S. Forest Service, Foxglove Farm, Blueberry Hill, the Waybury Inn, Addison Central School District and others—expanding the reach and depth of MALT’s programming across Addison County. Her work emphasizes hands-on, place-based learning and creating meaningful connections between our community and the landscapes that define this region.
With a background in Parks and Recreation Management, entrepreneurship, and years of experience leading outdoor programming in National and State Parks, Rachel brings both creativity and professionalism to her role. She has a natural ability to meet participants where they are and design engaging, inclusive experiences that resonate with youth and adults alike.
Rachel continues to be inspired by the beauty and simplicity of the outdoors and is passionate about fostering curiosity, stewardship, and a lifelong connection to nature within the MALT community. Contact rachel@maltvt.org.
Jen Popick
Director of Development and Engagement
Jennifer Popick joins the MALT team this May as our first Director of Development and Engagement. She looks forward to diving into MALT’s grassroots work and helping MALT build a sustainable foundation to achieve its Vision 2040.
Jen brings more than 25 years of leadership in proposal development and management of large-scale projects focused on forest conservation, water resources management, land and natural resources rights, agricultural development, and community engagement worldwide. As a member of the senior executive team of Tetra Tech’s Vermont-based ARD operating unit, a premier implementing partner to the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and other global donors and foundations, Jen was responsible for securing funding for projects in more than 30 countries. Over her nearly 16-year career with Tetra Tech, Jen worked closely with conservation professionals to develop and test effective strategies for community forest management and public education and awareness. Prior to working at Tetra Tech, Jen worked on public policy issues domestically and abroad at Cambridge, MA-based Abt Associates, and at a Boston-based private equity management firm focused on investment in the former Soviet Union.
Jen first fell in love with Addison County’s lands and trails as a Middlebury College student. After nearly 20 years in Chittenden County, Jen and her husband, Hobart (a Middlebury native), will relocate to Middlebury later this month. Jen also looks forward to spending her free time on the TAM and hopes to connect with as many MALT supporters as possible in the near future. Contact jen@maltvt.org.
Hailey Snider
Trails and Community Engagement Coordinator
Hailey is serving as this year’s Trails Steward and Community Engagement Coordinator through VHCB AmeriCorps. She graduated from the University of Vermont in 2024 with a degree in environmental science and a minor in wildlife biology. Since then, she has spent time backpack traveling and working on organic vegetable farms. Through her passion for wildlife and farming, she became interested in conserved lands and the important role land trusts play in protecting ecosystems, sustaining working landscapes, and connecting communities. Hailey's favorite ways to spend her free time include snowboarding, hiking, reading, and swimming in rivers.
She looks forward to serving with the MALT community, supporting its mission, and working on trails that connect people to nature while protecting the landscapes around Middlebury. Contact Hailey here.
Travis Kornegay
Stewardship & Environmental Educator
Travis is serving as this year’s Stewardship & Environmental Educator through the VHCB AmeriCorps program. His interest in environmental conservation grew from an active childhood outdoors and involvement in the Boy Scouts of America, where he earned the rank of Eagle Scout, as well as his undergraduate studies in natural resources at the University of Connecticut. After graduating in 2021, he served with AmeriCorps Cape Cod and later the California Conservation Corps’ Watershed Stewards Program, where he gained experience in trail conservation work, native plant identification, streamflow monitoring, and community engagement. Continuing this focus on water resources, he spent a few years working as a project scientist for Larry Walker Associates in Northern California leading water resource monitoring teams.
After spending a few years living and working outside the Northeast, he realized that his passions are rooted closer to home, which led him to the opportunity to serve with MALT. Through this service role, he is looking forward to serving with AmeriCorps in Addison County and the chance to reconnect with the broader natural resources community in Vermont. In his free time, he enjoys hiking, camping, woodworking, reading, practicing bushcraft skills, and exploring the landscapes that first inspired his interest in conservation. Contact Travis here.
Owen Maille
Seasonal Trails Specialist
Owen is working for MALT this summer as the Seasonal Trails Specialist. He comes to MALT after spending the last two seasons working with the Green Mountain Club's professional backcountry trail crew, most recently as a Crew Leader for the southern crew. He has a passion for building sustainable and durable trails and I'm excited to bring that passion to the TAM. He was born in New Haven, VT and he’s thrilled to be working on a trail system so close to home. Hope to see you out there!
Egan Turner
Middlebury College GIS Intern
Egan is a Geography major at Middlebury College and is excited to be putting his GIS skills to use while interning at MALT this summer. Originally from New Haven, CT, Egan’s love for the outdoors emerged from camping trips with his family as they traveled to many of the National Parks. The last three summers, he worked as a Trips Coordinator at Pok-O-MacCready Camps in the Adirondacks, planning, packing, and leading hiking, biking, and paddling trips in the High Peaks region. During this period, Egan also became an Adirondack 46-er, summiting each peak above 4,000’.
During the school year, Egan is the President of the Men’s Club Rowing team at Middlebury, an editor of Middlebury Geographic Magazine, and writes crosswords for the Middlebury Campus newspaper. In his free time this summer, he looks forward to biking around Addison County, rowing on Lake Dunmore, and watching the World Cup with friends. Contact Egan here.
Alice Gipe
Land Stewardship UVM Intern
Alice is serving as MALT’s Land Stewardship Intern this summer through the University of Vermont’s Perennial Internship Program. She is a senior at UVM, majoring in Environmental Science with focused interests in conservation biology and plant sciences. She grew up in State College, Pennsylvania, where she became passionate about the outdoors from childhood through hiking, biking, and camping in the area. Alice has engaged in community conservation in numerous ways; fostering connections with kids as an environmental camp naturalist, collecting data on alpine ecology and hosting educational programs on New Hampshire’s Mt. Washington, and most recently spending a semester in Patagonia, Chile participating in conservation work with local organizations. In her free time, she loves skiing, running, or lounging in a hammock with a book.
She is excited to gain experience working directly with community members to conserve beautiful lands around Middlebury while also learning more about the area’s natural communities on the TAM. Email Alice here.
john derick
TAM Volunteer
John has been volunteering with MALT for over 30 years. From 1990 - 2000 John helped secure landowner agreements and expand the trail from its Middlebury origin to New Haven, Weybridge, and Cornwall. During that time, John also helped navigate critical agreements with Middlebury College and VT Marble Co. to build the Boathouse and Belden Falls Bridges, respectively.
Over the years he has served on the MALT Board and as our manager of the trails, working with numerous volunteers, interns, high school and college groups, and partner organizations to build and maintain the TAM. He continues to volunteer doing trail work after 35 years. John, words cannot capture your history with MALT nor your contributions to our community. THANK YOU!

Bookkeeper
Rachael has taken care of our finances for 14 years, and drops in to help with events as well. We are very fortunate to have her, as she has about 10 jobs (we are guessing). She likes to stay busy!
